How to Share the Closed Testing Opt-in Link with Testers
TL;DR
To invite testers, you must use the specific 'Web Opt-in Link' located in the 'Testers' tab of your Closed Testing track. Sharing the standard Google Play Store URL will result in an 'Item Not Found' error.
The Opt-In Link Mistake
A common error developers make when starting their 14-day test is copying the URL of their app from the Google Play Store (e.g., play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=...) and sending it to testers.
Because your app is in closed testing, that public URL does not exist yet. Anyone who clicks it will see an "Item Not Found" error. You must share the specific Web Opt-in link.
Where to Find the Web Opt-in Link
- In the Play Console, go to Testing > Closed testing.
- Click Manage track on your active alpha/closed track.
- Select the Testers tab.
- Scroll down past the email lists. You will see a section labeled "Join on the web".
- Click Copy link.
Note: This link will only be visible if your track release has passed the initial "In Review" phase and is marked as "Available".

When you share the Web Opt-in link (which usually looks like https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.your.package), the tester is taken to a special Google Play landing page.
- They must click the blue button that says "Become a Tester".
- Once they accept, the page will update and provide a new link that says "Download it on Google Play".
- Clicking this secondary link directs them to the actual Play Store app where they can install your application.
Always remind your testers to complete both steps: click "Become a tester", and then physically install the app on their device to register as an active user.
